Provides access to virtually access mainframe data sources and allows the transparent joining of data from disparate sources Server
Direct support for z/OS, OS/390 and MVS hosted data
A critical element of the Arbutus solution is having the data processing technology reside on the same platform as the data. Organizations with z/OS, OS/390 and MVS can run the mainframe server. The server communicates directly with the Arbutus Windows clients to provide access to mainframe based data. Having the Arbutus Server application running natively in the mainframe environment enables the direct, real-time access to all data sources like DB2, IMS, VSAM and sequential (QSAM) flat files.
Key features:
Communication directly to the server via TCP/IP, allowing remote access in distributed environments
No intermediate or staging servers are required, although they are supported for workload balancing
Small footprint, requiring less than 5MB, exclusive of temporary data files
All connectivity can be totally transparent to Windows users who access mainframe data
All processing is handled by the server, for maximum performance
Host system native keys are used whenever available for query optimization
Data transmission delays are minimized, as only the columns and rows required are downloaded
Data transmission speeds are further improved through the use of compression
Data transmission over public lines can be secured by encryption
All native mainframe file types are supported, including VSAM, QSAM, PDS, GDG and Tape
Direct access to IMS and DB2 is supported, and this data can be combined with disparate sources
All native mainframe field types are supported, including Packed, Zoned, Binary and Float
Arbutus Servers - AS/400 (iSeries) Server
Provides access to DB2, IFS, flat and spool files and allows the transparent joining of data from disparate sources
Direct support for AS/400 hosted data
A critical element of the Arbutus solution is having the data processing technology reside on the same platform as the source data. Organizations with AS/400 platforms can run the Arbutus AS/400 Server. The server communicates directly with the Arbutus Windows clients to provide access to AS/400 data. Having the Arbutus Server application running natively in the AS/400 environment enables the direct, real-time access to AS/400 data sources, including:
DB2, IFS files, Flat Files and Spool Files
Key features:
Communication directly to the server via TCP/IP, allowing remote access in distributed environments
Data can be freely combined with other AS/400 or mainframe server data
No intermediate or staging servers are required, although they are supported for workload balancing
Small footprint, requiring less than 5MB, exclusive of temporary data files
All connectivity can be totally transparent to Windows users who access AS/400 based data
All processing is handled by the server, for maximum performance
Host system native keys are used whenever available for query optimization
Data transmission delays are minimized, as only the columns and rows required are downloaded
Data transmission speeds are further improved through the use of compression
Data transmission over public lines can be secured by encryption
Common AS/400 native file types are supported
Direct access to DB2 is supported, and this data can be combined with disparate sources
Common native field types are supported, including Packed, Zoned, Binary and Float
Arbutus Servers - Open Servers
Fully compatible with all legacy data types, with no transformations required, and can be used as an application server where mainframe loads are high.
Easily stage mainframe data
Open server versions are available for the Windows and Linux platforms. While these servers can access data native to their platforms, the primary intent of these servers is to provide organizations with an alternative means to stage and access mainframe data. Since CPU usage costs and resource availability on the mainframe can be a concern in many organizations, this is an ideal solution, particularly as it requires an absolute minimum level of infrastructure.
This is because the open servers are fully compatible with all data types and record organizations found on a mainframe, and require no translation or transformation to process the data. All the original data is fully supported, including ALL file and data types found on your mainframe.
Sequential files (fixed or variable length) can be moved to the open servers with any existing file transfer technology (such as FTP), without conversion. VSAM, ISAM, DB2 and IMS data can also be extracted directly using the Arbutus Mainframe server.
Once mainframe data is staged on an open server, the data access and integration capabilities of Arbutus can then be utilized, without impacting the mainframe load.
Key features:
Windows server is compatible with all Windows versions, including NT, Windows 2000, XP and Windows Server 2003
Small footprint, requiring less than 5MB, exclusive of temporary data files
Provides access other data sources including Unisys, HP and DEC once they are staged on any of the Arbutus servers
Allows ability to define and access existing flat files already on the server without staging
Communicates via TCP/IP, allowing remote access in distributed environments
All connectivity can be totally transparent to users who access staged mainframe data
Data transmission delays are minimized, as only the columns and rows required are downloaded
Data transmission speeds are further improved through the use of compression
Data transmission over public lines can be secured by encryption
Native mainframe file types are supported, including fixed and variable length formats
All native mainframe field types are supported, including EBCDIC, Packed, Zoned, Binary and Float
Minimum infrastructure, as data is staged in its original unconverted format
